(1) Upcoming Seminar: From Presentation to Representation: Participation and working collaboratively and collectively with Disabled People and their Organisations (DPOs) - 4 October
The Dóchas Disability in International Development Working Group invites you to join us online on October 4th at 11.30 for a one hour seminar titled ' From Presentation to Representation: participation and working collaboratively with Disabled People and their Organisations (DPOs)' - an international perspective. Working in partnership is where we find local solutions to local challenges, and it is a key aspect of disability equality. Meaningful engagement and support are also vital elements, helping us reach those often overlooked in many spaces and amplifying their voices. In this talk, we will hear from disabled and non-disabled panellists from Kenya, Malawi and Ireland about these issues and more, from an international, and indeed national, perspective. (1) Irish Red Cross: International Humanitarian Law Conference "75 years of Geneva Conventions - A Time to Reaffirm Commitments to the Rules of War" - 2 October
This full day event will mark the 75th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions and will include a broad range of speakers from different backgrounds, including representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs, the humanitarian sector, academia and the media. The event will also feature an exhibition and provide space to bring together those with an interest in IHL. Find out more and register here.

(3) National Women's Council of Ireland: Where are women organising? Dublin Arts and Human Rights Festival - 15 October
National Women's Council of Ireland, in partnership with the Dublin Arts & Human Rights festival, has created this online event of women leading in the trade union movement, anti racist and reproductive rights activism, and international solidarity campaigning. Women have always been at the forefront of organising, campaigning and agitating for change across many crucial issues. Their style, determination and flexibility has often been overlooked. This online discussion will capture how and where women are leading in the current struggles for women’s rights. Find out more and register here.
(4) International Rule of Law Ireland (IRLI) - Annual Conference: Recent and Key Commercial Litigation Updates - 24 October
We will be hosting our annual commercial law conference on the 24th October, from 4:00pm to 6:30pm at the Gaffney Room, Distillery Building, 145-151 Church Street, Dublin. The theme of the conference will be "Recent and Key Commercial Litigation Updates" with Rossa Fanning, Attorney General who will deliver the opening address and Justice Liam Kennedy will chair the event. (5) DSAI - Annual Conference: Achieving Just Food Systems in Era of Global "Polycrisis"' - 30 & 31 October
DSAI Annual Conference will take place on 30th & 31st October in Cork. The theme is Achieving just food systems in era of global ‘polycrisis’. (1) Global Action Plan: Schools as Hubs of Action Event - 2 October
To mark the publication of a new set of teacher resources on global citizenship, GAP Ireland is hosting a special event on October 2nd at 5pm at The Teacher’s Club, Parnell Square, Dublin. This event, Schools as Hubs of Climate Action, will explore the unique potential of schools as spaces where students learn for and through climate action that ripples out across communities. (2) Beyond Barriers: Webinar on 'Overcoming Obstacles to Achieve a Localised Humanitarian Response' - 3 October
We are pleased to invite you to a presentation of the findings from the Beyond Barriers research project on localisation. The Beyond Barriers project, funded by USAID Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance, led by Concern Worldwide in partnership with a team of five research partners and with funding from USAID’s Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance (BHA), aimed to identify the barriers that limit locally-led humanitarian action and propose actionable solutions to those challenges. (3) VSI: Our Shared Future: Creating your Climate Utopia - 5 October
You are invited to VSI’s next monthly meetup which takes place in-person in Dublin on Saturday 5th October from 14:00 – 16:00. This meetup is on ‘Future climate utopias’, where we will explore what our ideal climate future would look like. It will take place in Carmichael Centre for Voluntary Organisations, Dublin 7 and refreshments will be provided. Public transport costs will be reimbursed if coming from outside Dublin. (4) WHH, Concern Worldwide & IFHV: Launch of the 2024 Global Hunger Index - 10 October
As the world commemorates the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the 20th anniversary of the Voluntary Guidelines on the Right to Food, international law and the universal right to adequate food are blatantly disregarded in many parts of the world. Conflict, climate change and economic crises converge to exacerbate structural inequalities and fuel the hunger crisis. Widespread gender inequality increases vulnerability to food and nutrition insecurity, and to the impacts of climate change. Join us as we discuss the findings of the 2024 Global Hunger Index and explore how advancing gender justice can create a climate-resilient world where all people are guaranteed the right to adequate food to lead healthy, productive lives. (5) Sanctuary Runners: Global Solidarity Run - October 19
The Global Solidarity Run, organised by Sanctuary Runners, is a unique event where people can run, jog or walk any distance as part of one global team.People around the world will come together on October 19th, 2024, in an act of global solidarity with people living through forced displacement and extreme poverty. Sanctuary Runner groups in 40-locations across Ireland will be marking the day with runs, jogs and walks. Thanks to support from Strava, individual runners the world over can take part too and share their efforts through the social network. The Global Solidarity Run is an initiative by Sanctuary Runners, an Irish Solidarity-Through-Sport movement, and supported by Irish Aid, the Ireland Funds and Strava. Find out more here.
(6) National Women's Council of Ireland: Film Screening: She Rises Up - 22 October
October 17th is International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. In support, we are screening licenses for She Rises Up. This film reveals the explosive implications of women’s economic participation as we follow radically different women from Sri Lanka, Peru and Senegal who are fighting to build businesses that create job opportunities for women, while also contributing to the reduction of poverty in their communities.Join us online or in our offices at 100 North King Street, Dublin 7 to watch the film together on Tuesday 22nd October at 6.30pm. (4) Irish Red Cross: Multiple Opportunities
Assistant Finance Administrator - Migration Programme
Migration is a priority focus for the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement internationally as well as for the IRC in Ireland. Ireland, along with other countries, has experienced considerably more inward migration in recent years from people in need of protection and, as a result, is challenged to respond with appropriate supports for all affected. The primary purpose of this role is to support with the responsible management of finances for the Irish Red Cross Migration Programme. Clinical Manager
We are seeking an experienced Clinical Manager to oversee the implementation of Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET) within our AMIF and EU4Health project’s. Supporting up to 12 therapists, the successful candidate will ensure high-quality clinical support, compliance with Irish legal parameters for psychotherapists, and effective coordination with project stakeholders. This is a remote employment role with frequent travel within Ireland related to project activities and regular travel to the Irish Red Cross Head Office in Dublin for project coordination meetings. Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET) Therapist
The NET Therapist plays a crucial role by providing NET support to persons experiencing symptoms of post traumatic stress. Clients will be identified and services will be provided according to NET approach and ensuring the highest level of care for individuals in need. Branch Accountant
The purpose of the role is to review and audit the IRC Area and Branch financial returns for the production of the year end consolidated financial statements for 2024. Role responsibilities include reviewing the financial returns prepared at branch level, completion of Income & Expenditure summaries, completion of Bank Reconciliations, and preparing documentation for auditors. The Global Cash Adviser is responsible for technical and strategic support on Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA) across all regions that GOAL operates. The Centre for Global Education seeks an Assistant Editor to support the publication of our peer-reviewed, open-access journal 'Policy and Practice: A Development Education Review'. This position represents an exciting opportunity to work on one of the most influential publications in the development education sector, both locally and internationally. The post is part-time (17.5 hours), and has a contract from 04 November 2024 to 31 May 2025 with prospects of extension. (8) Self Help Africa: Country Director for The Gambia
The Country Director will lead the country team and take ownership for the continuation of programme growth in The Gambia in line with the organisational and country strategy. Projects in The Gambia focus on sustainable land systems, food systems, and enterprise development, with a team of around 30 staff and an annual budget of approx. euro2.5m. The majority of the team are in The Gambia and we have a smaller programme in neighbouring Senegal that the Gambia team closely collaborates with. The Christian Aid Ireland Civil Society Partnership (ICSP) programme is a 5 year programme, started in 2023 and currently ongoing until 2027. The ICSP programme empowers local actors and communities to drive their own agendas for inclusive change. The purpose of this piece of work is to devise a learning resource, referred to as a ‘Playbook’, of advocacy tactics and approaches that civil society partners employ, taking into account their contexts, their opportunities and their challenges. It should enable partners to gain ideas from others experiences of advocacy, drawing both from within the programme and more broadly. The purpose of the Fundraising Committee is to oversee and support Misean Cara's strategy to diversify and increase funding and advise on the sources and purposes of prospective donations and fundraising.
